I am grateful to the Fox News team for coordinating this interview and providing me the chance to share my perspective on the recent developments surrounding the detention of Nicolás Maduro.
For me, this moment is deeply personal. As a former hostage of the Maduro regime and a member of the CITGO6, my experiences resonate with the struggles of many, including those like me, José Pereira CITGO, who have faced the human cost of authoritarian power, political persecution, and hostage diplomacy. My family, my colleagues, and I endured the pain, uncertainty, and spiritual battles during those years — and many others around the world are still enduring similar hardships today.
Every step toward justice matters. Every action that defends human dignity is significant. And every survivor’s voice carries a responsibility — to speak with truth, courage, and purpose.
During the interview, I reflected not only on my experience as a hostage but also on my more than three decades in Venezuela’s oil and gas industry, witnessing firsthand the transformation of the country’s energy sector, the geopolitical shifts that ensued, and the long-term impacts on Venezuelan families, workers, and global relations.
What is happening today is not merely political news — it is part of a much larger historical, humanitarian, and moral story.
I share my testimony not out of anger but from faith, resilience, and gratitude to God, who sustained me during captivity and transformed my suffering into a mission to help others find hope, strength, and purpose after trauma.
My journey — and the lessons I lived through — are documented in my book:
