"From Hero To Villain: My True Story of the CITGO 6" by Jose Angel Pereira Ruimwyk When you flip through Jose Angel Pereira 's "From Hero to Villain: My True Story of the CITGO 6," you enter a world where the abyss of injustice meets the light of redemption. This book is not only an account of the events experienced by Jose Angel Pereira, but a profound reflection on the fragility of freedom and the strength of the human soul in the face of the darkest adversities. Jose Angel Pereira describes with almost surgical precision the moment when his life changes radically: a business trip turns into a nightmare of five years of unjust imprisonment in Venezuela. The real power of this book lies in Jose Angel Pereira 's ability to convey his experience with disarming vulnerability. He hides nothing: the most painful details of his captivity, the physical and mental torture, the suffering inflicted by the separation from his family. But, like a golden thread that runs through the canvas of the story, there is a resilience that shines on every page. Jose Angel Pereira is not just a survivor; He is a man reborn from the ashes of despair, transformed by his experience into something stronger, wiser, more spiritual. The descriptions of the encounters with people of great culture and wisdom during his imprisonment, the rediscovery of faith and the Bible as a source of strength and inspiration, are moments that give the book a mystical dimension. These moments are testaments to the human ability to find light even in the darkest places. A particularly touching aspect is the description of his relationship with his wife #Mervis. Jose Angel Pereira reflects with deep gratitude on his wife's unconditional support, which has made his path of survival and transformation possible. Their bond emerges as a beacon of hope, showing that love can truly overcome any obstacle. The book is not just a chronicle of events, but a meditation on the importance of faith, family and forgiveness. Jose Angel Pereira invites us to reflect on our lives, the choices we make, and how we deal with adversity. Her story is an invitation to never give up, to find strength in God and in the people who love us, and to transform even the most devastating experiences into opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. The book details the harrowing experience of Tomeu Vadell and his colleagues, known as the CITGO6, who were unjustly imprisoned in Venezuela, shedding light on their struggles, the legal and political complexities, and the impact on their families.
Resilience is emphasized, as they continuously fought for way overdue justice.

It paints a vivid picture of the suffering, from the initial arrest to the international efforts that eventually helped to the release. The story tells all the struggles of international relations, legal challenges, and the mental/physical toll on everyone. Is not just a tale of injustice but also a testament to resilience, courage, and the enduring power of hope in the face of adversity and pain, but also the hope and strength he needed to overcome everything he had to endure.
100% recommended and I hope this book reaches so many more people.
5.0 out of 5 stars A book everyone should read

A thrilling, heartbreaking and inspiring story about resilience and hope. I am also from Venezuela and always followed his story very closely, it’s so sad to see how someone’s birth and home country can be transformed into a living hell by the government. It really is a story worth knowing and it’s so important to raise awareness about this issue. There are so many innocent people unfairly imprisoned by their countries’ governments just because they refused to be pawns in their game.
The storytelling is also amazing and engaging! You can read the emotions, the desperation and pain but also the hope and strength he needed to overcome everything he had to endure.

Jose’s story is nothing short of remarkable. It’s difficult to imagine what he and his colleagues went through during their captivity and the challenges they faced at that time. His story is horrifying at times and difficult to read but I strongly encourage everyone to buy this book and read his story.
One of the most remarkable parts of this story is that even though he went through extremely adverse circumstances he came out the other side a changed man, grateful for his freedom and for seeing his family again.

....It is the first week of May, and various foundations have organized Hostage Week with events dedicated to raising awareness of hostages' plight and supporting their families.
It invited me to attend the Hostage U.S. and Foley Foundation Galas, where I would share my story and honor the resilience of those who have faced similar trials.
In addition, I was thrilled to be present at the dedication of the new offices of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs (SPEHA) at the State Department in Washington D.C. office that is under the leadership of Ambassador Roger Carstens, the person who brought us back home, and that during our captivity we decided to call him "Captain America."
Memories of my capture on November 21, 2017, flooded my mind. I worked as CEO of Citgo Petroleum, the subsidiary of PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela), the Venezuelan state-owned oil and gas multinational based in Houston, Texas, in the United States, which manages several refineries and gasoline distribution chains. Armed men took us away from the meeting in Caracas in handcuffs. I vividly remembered the chaos, the fear that gripped my heart, and the uncertainty that hung over all of us. I took us as hostages, torn from our families and thrown into a life of unimaginable hardship. An hour turned two days, days into months, and months into two years, and the outside world kept spinning, oblivious to our plight.... BUY YOUR COPY NOW.
